## Three ways to hire
1. **Auto-close** — fixed-price plans. Example: an agent calls `create_order` (MCP) or `POST /api/v1/orders` with `{ "items": [{ "plan_id": "engine" }], "term_months": 3, "principal": { "name": "...", "email": "..." } }`, receives a payment URL, and pays with a Shared Payment Token (MPP) or hands the URL to its human for Stripe Checkout. No human at Modern Zen is involved.
2. **Scoped and approved** — custom work. Example: `submit_brief` with needs, context, timeline, and budget. Modern Zen's agents triage, may ask up to two rounds of questions, draft a quote, and a human approves it within one business day. The agent then calls `accept_quote`.
3. **Human** — partnerships (SAGE). Example: `talk_to_a_human` returns the booking link.

## Status values
- Brief: received → triaging → needs_input → quoting → pending_approval → quoted → accepted | declined | expired | routed_to_human
- Quote: draft → pending_approval → issued → accepted | declined | expired (issued quotes expire after 14 days)
- Order: pending_payment → paid | failed | canceled | refunded
- Engagement: waitlisted | onboarding | active | canceling | ended

## Error codes
Every error is `{ "error": { "code", "message", "fix", "docs" } }`. Codes: validation_error, not_found, unauthorized, idempotency_conflict, dependency_missing (an add-on without its base plan), capacity_waitlist, over_agentic_limit (order above the agentic cap; human checkout still works), policy_declined, rate_limited, not_available_yet.
